Peninsula Papagayo began over 25 years ago to transform the coastline in the northwest corner of Costa Rica’s Guanacaste province into an environmentally sensitive luxury resort community.  2,300 acre coastal paradise.  Master plan says 70% of the 2,300 acres will remain open space.

Peninsula Papagayo - CLICK TO ENLARGE

It is the first environmentally sound luxury resort and real estate project in Costa Rica.  It has an exceptional sensitivity to the ecosystem that makes all the beauty possible.  The 2,300-acre residential community is spread across twin peninsula along Costa Rica's stunning Pacific coast in the northwest province of Guanacaste.  It is dedicated to striking the perfect balance between nature and eco-friendly development.  Of the 2,300 acres, 70% of the land will remain as existing forest and only 30% will be developed for roads and buildings.  Protected areas include two forest reserves - 17 acres and 62 acres - and two architectural 12-acre reserves.

The first phase of Peninsula Papagayo included a 153 room Four Seasons Resort, a private 18-hole Arnold Palmer Signature golf course, golf clubhouse with restaurant and lounge., general store, and 38,000 square foot Prieta Beach Club and Spa.

Costa Rica stands as the most visited nation in Central America and is considered the pioneer of ecotourism.

Population:  4.3 million

Capital City:  San Jose

Official Langauge:  Spanish

Government:  Democratic republic with more than 115 years of uninterrupted democracy, making it one of the most stable countries in Latin America.  Costa Rica was the first country in the world to constitutionally abolish its army in 1949.

Costa Rican culture is heavily influenced by Spanish heritage, however, English is widely understood by a population with nearly 97% literate.  Most Costa Ricans refer to themselves as "Ticos".  They are festive and peaceful people, who enjoy welcoming  travelers and vacationers to the paradise they call home.

Infrastructure and services are modern and readily available.  No vaccines needed for visiting foreigners.  The overall quality of life is safe, secure and prosperous.  It is slightly smaller than the state of West Virginia and dedicates 30 percent of its land toward nature conservation and wildlife.

Venture out and explore secluded beaches, sea caves and estuaries.  Our favorite Ocean Discovery Tour is a wonderful way to experience the Papagayo Gulf and see dolphins, whales, turtles, rays and countless reef creatures along the way.

Check out the world’s slowest mammal in Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve while stepping on the Continental Divide, with one foot on the Caribbean side and the other on the Pacific.

For many of our guests, catching their first wave and riding it’s green, unbroken face is a life-changing experience and there is no better place to experience the exhilaration and freedom of surfing than on Playa Prieta’s perfect beginner wave.

Jump into bright blue waterfalls and reconnect with nature in a mesmerizing rainforest canyon. In Tenorio, you will find a diverse array of flora and fauna, including pumas, tapirs, howler monkeys, squirrels, bromeliads, palms, ferns and much more.
